Vertiv academy Latin America trains data center managers for impacts of AI applications

June 26, 2024

Experts in critical digital infrastructure guide professionals in a safe test environment, replicating data center operating conditions.

São Paulo, Brazil [June 11, 2024] – Vertiv (NYSE: VRT), a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, announced the opening of operations at the Vertiv Academy Latin America, a training center for data center professionals. The 150 square meter facility is located in Barueri, a city in the Greater São Paulo region in Brazil.

Vertiv Academy Latin America replicates critical digital infrastructure in a data center environment, enabling hands-on training in a safe and controlled test environment. Vertiv’s local trainers’ technical instructors will train professionals from Latin American countries on the best practices for critical digital infrastructure management and services, with emphasis on Vertiv’s thermal and power management solutions. Training offered at the Vertiv Academy Latin America is available in Portuguese, Spanish and English, and it is delivered by critical infrastructure experts who have, on average, more than ten years of experience in the industry.

The services provided at the Vertiv Academy Latin America are exclusively for end-users of Vertiv’s solutions, Vertiv’s channel partners, and the company’s internal service team - Vertiv Customer Engineers.

“The HPC and AI Application data centers are arriving in Latin America and are demanding a new generation of professionals with new skills. New technology such as critical infrastructure liquid cooling offerings, enable data center operators to save energy and  properly cool their high-density data racks. New multipower source UPS contribute to this changing data center landscape, allowing the data center management level to choose what power source to use depending upon the type of application.  More than ever, keeping this environment operating in an efficient way requires reliable infrastructure and knowledgeable technical staff to maintain it. These elements become even more important given the lack of qualified professionals certified in critical digital infrastructure management best practices”, says Francisco Sales, services director for Vertiv Latin America.

According to a 2022 Uptime Institute study, 53% of data centers leaders say that they are facing troubles in finding the right professionals to their organizations. A Brazilian report developed in 2021 by the Associação das Empresas de Tecnologia da Informação e Comunicação (TIC) e de Tecnologias Digitais (BRASSCOM) reveals that the overall IT market will demand 797 thousand new professionals until 2025.

“Vertiv Academy Latin America provides data center professionals with a safe test environment, access to critical equipment for hands-on learning, and the latest technologies to enhance both training and advanced field service. The goal is to prepare them to face the challenges of data center management”, explains Leonardo Barroso, technical support and training regional manager for Vertiv Latin America.

Highlights of the physical space include Vertiv™ Smart Solutionsprefabricated, modular solutions, configured to include monitoring platform Vertiv™ Environet™ Alert, and Vertiv’s thermal and power management systems.

The Vertiv Academy Latin America also has over ten of Vertiv’s thermal management solutions simulators – devices with built in logic from the thermal management solutions. “Vertiv simulators allow students to experience the interface of large equipment that are physically on their sites, learning to manage the systems with the support of the training professionals”, says Leonardo Barroso.

In addition to the simulators, students and instructors can also make use of Augmented Reality Smart Glasses to receive 3D images of equipment and projects or allow remote students to experience a new way to interact with the Vertiv solutions during the training session. “We use AR Smart Glasses to boost the learning process through a unique and immersive experience”, says Barroso. “Upon mastering the use of these 3D glasses, professionals trained by the Vertiv Academy gain a career differentiator. They become capable of remotely seeing the depths of the data center infrastructure and will be able to verify the critical environment together with a local trainer.”

The Vertiv Academy Latin America places a strong emphasis on workplace safety best practices. Both students and instructors are required to adhere to safe working practices as the foundation for all processes implemented at the academy. Additionally, Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) such as helmets, glasses, and gloves, along with other safety equipment, is provided as an extra safety measure. The primary goal is to ensure a safe environment within the academy and to instill safety practices in their workplaces. “The concern with the data center professional’s well-being is a pillar of Vertiv’s working philosophy, and it emphasizes that the Vertiv Academy Latin America, while being a classroom, is also a production space”, explains Sales.
