Vertiv introduces high power density, scalable ups system for dynamic computing environments in North America

October 02, 2024

The compact Vertiv™ Liebert® APM2 UPS scales from 10 to 150 kVA 208V or 20 to 600 kVA 480/415V and can provide back-up power for critical liquid cooling systems that support AI deployments.

COLUMBUS, Ohio [October 1, 2024] – Vertiv (NYSE: VRT), a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, today launched the Vertiv™ Liebert® APM2 UPS, a modular high power density, online, three-phase uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system that introduces higher performance, expanded features and greater flexibility to today’s most dynamic computing environments. Liebert® APM2 is available now in North America, and will be featured in the Vertiv booth at Yotta in Las Vegas, Nevada, October 7-9.

The compact and modular Liebert APM2 delivers a wide range of scalable capacities, with 10-150kVA 208V models able to parallel up to 600kVA, and 20-600kVA 480/415V models able to parallel for total system capacity up to 2.4MW. The UPS is engineered to meet the rigorous demands of diverse computing applications, including enterprise, edge, healthcare, light industrial facilities, and distributed architectures in large data centers. The Liebert APM2 can also support critical power backup to liquid cooling distribution units (CDUs) commonly deployed in high performance compute (HPC) or AI applications.

The Liebert APM2 product line is highly adaptable to meet wide range of system power voltages, including 208V, 480V, and 415V, and 4 Wire, simplifying product selection to meet a variety of application needs. The modular and scalable architecture enables seamless system capacity expansion, redundancy, ease and speed of serviceability, and fault isolation to keep critical power operating.

“Power protection is a concern for many data centers, especially when planning for growth,” said Ryan Motyka, global offering manager, power management, at Vertiv. “The Liebert APM2 is designed for modern IT environments and critical power applications where scalability, reliability, flexibility, efficiency and ease of deployment are prioritized.”

The Vertiv™ Liebert® APM2 adopts the highly reliable and enhanced performance features of the popular Vertiv™ Liebert® EXM UPS and introduces new technologies, including Silicon Carbide (SiC) converters, to achieve even greater operating efficiencies. Additionally, the  Liebert® APM2 delivers up to 20% more power module density than other market-available products     with expanded capacity up to 600kVA. The Liebert APM2 also provides an integrated maintenance bypass feature up to 300kVA 480V/415V or 150kVA 208V to enable a single UPS and maintenance bypass solution. The North American models of the UPS comply with UL 1778 5th Edition and CSA 22.2 NO 107.3 for general and safety requirements.

With its distributed modular architecture, Liebert APM2 power modules function independently to improve system resiliency and fault tolerance, thus improving the expected uptime to protect the critical power load. The system also offers hot swappable functionality that enables maintenance or service while under operation for core system components, including power modules, bypass module, and for select models, the new internal lithium ion or VRLA battery modules.

The system can achieve efficiency rates of up to 97.5% in double conversion mode, and actively manages its hardware capacities with intelligent paralleling mode technology to operate at the highest system efficiency levels during operating load fluctuation. Additionally, Liebert APM2 includes the Dynamic Online high efficiency mode feature that delivers up to 99% efficiency without sacrificing availability of full power protection. Dynamic Online mode draws power through the bypass line and uses the inverter for a balanced output and as an active filter to provide load and network power conditioning.

The Liebert APM2 offers modern and traditional flexible energy storage solutions paired with advanced battery management (BMS) system and high-capacity charging capability to achieve optimal runtime performance, battery life, and recovery from discharge. A new ultra-high density modular internal lithium battery solution is available in 10-60kVA 208V and 20-120kVA 480/415V models, further elevating the industry benchmark for UPS lithium-ion battery solutions seen on the market today. The Liebert APM2 can also be paired with optimized VRLA, lithium-ion, or nickel-zinc external battery cabinet solutions to meet a variety of applications and runtimes.

First introduced in international markets in 2023, the Vertiv™ Liebert® APM2 400V CE has earned regional industry awards for product excellence and product innovation. For more information on the Liebert® APM2 or other Vertiv solutions for modern data centers, visit Vertiv.com.
